We all want visibly plump, dewy skin but the skincare product journey to awaken it can sometimes be overwhelming. We’re here to help. We’ve curated a list of hydration heroes that will transform your skin into a wellspring of moisture. So, you can have that natural glow year-round.

Types of moisturizers

Keeping skin hydrated is about more than just drinking water; your skincare ritual plays an important role, too. There are three main moisturizing categories that your favorite hydrating ingredients fall under to attract moisture, retain it, or prevent its loss from the skin.

Humectants

Best for: Normal, oily, or combination skin.

We like to call humectants the “moisture magnets.” They work their magic by attracting water from the air and deeper layers of the skin to the outer layer of the skin, providing a plumping and moisturizing effect. Glycerin: A classic ingredient known to draw moisture into the skin.

● Hyaluronic acid: A powerhouse that can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

● Aloe Vera: Renowned for its soothing and moisture-attracting properties.

● Sugar: The iconic natural ingredient we introduced to the beauty industry, it’s proven to deliver long-lasting hydration and seal in moisture.

Emollients

Best for: Dry skin or aging skin.

If you’re looking for a soft, supple, and smooth complexion, emollients are your best friend. They fill in the spaces in your skin that are missing moisture, essentially smoothing roughness.

● Shea butter: Rich and nourishing, it absorbs easily and moisturizes dryness.

● Squalene: A plant-derived oil helps prevent moisture loss and protect the skin. Ceramides: A skin-mimicking lipid that strengthens the skin's barrier to prevent moisture loss and dehydration.

Occlusives

Best for: Very dry skin or damaged skin

Occlusives are natural barrier-builders. They seal in hydration by forming a protective layer on the skin's surface and minimize water loss.

● Petrolatum: Often found in heavy creams and ointments.

● Beeswax: A natural barrier that locks in moisture.

● Dimethicone: A type of silicone that prevents transepidermal water loss.
