Sugar is a natural humectant that helps to prevent moisture loss. A natural antibacterial agent, sugar was historically used in folk medicine to treat minor cuts and help the healing process.
“I was an overly energetic little boy—no surprise there—and every day I’d come home with a nick here and a scrape there. I couldn’t take the sting of common antiseptic iodine or alcohol, so instead, my grandmother treated my wounds with sugar, a known natural antiseptic. Years later, Alina and I shared a good laugh when we discovered we had this remedy in common, as Alina’s grandmother also used sugar to heal her cuts and scrapes. Wanting to pass this highly effective ritual on to the world, we bottled our shared tradition, pioneering the use of sugar’s healing and humectant properties in the beauty industry.”
