Kombucha is fermented sweet black tea rich in organic acids and vitamins that has been around since ancient times. Historically it has been known throughout Asia and Russia as an “immortal elixir” beverage for its energizing and detoxifying properties. We believed so deeply in its benefits for the skin that we conducted our own research and revealed it has powerful anti-pollution properties. We tested our kombucha extract against common pollutants such as heavy metals and hydrocarbons and against digital light to scientifically prove it protects the skin. In addition to pollution defense, our kombucha also increases skin’s smoothness and luminosity.
Fermentation is a very old and natural process that bio-transforms molecules. Our kombucha is made using a distinct fermentation process to obtain specific molecules that have beneficial properties for the skin. The microorganisms involved form a mixed culture called SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast). This symbiotic culture includes saccharomyces yeast and xylinum bacteria that are combined to bio-transform the black tea into a potent kombucha extract with key skincare benefits.
Air pollution—both indoor and outdoor—contains particle matter like heavy metals, hydrocarbons, and other contaminants that are smaller than 2.5 microns in size (PM2.5). These microscopic particles can cause oxidative stress that leads to premature fine lines, dryness, and a dull, fragile complexion. Kombucha protects skin from indoor and outdoor pollutants in two ways: First, it deactivates damaging pollutants to minimize interaction with the skin and prevent oxidative stress. Second, the antioxidant ingredient neutralizes free radicals caused by pollution and environmental aggressors.
“I started drinking kombucha and became so infatuated with the power of fermentation—how it made me feel energized and detoxified—that I wanted to highlight its potential on the skin. After extensive research into its potent properties, we made kombucha the star of our liquid treatment essence to protect from the damaging effects of pollution—both indoor and outdoor, as well as digital light—for a smooth, luminous complexion.”
